As I approach another milestone birthday, I bring a lifetime of football passion and
experience to my role as a volunteer junior grassroots coach. Growing up as a die-hard
Bristol City supporter, I played as a striker at a decent level back in the day — quick on my
feet and with a knack for finding the back of the net, even if my pace has long since faded!

Football has always been my greatest love. While few would recognise my favourite Bristol City players of my youth, my inspirations growing up included legends like Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, and Michel Platini. As the game evolved, I admired the brilliance of Ronaldo (R9), the magic partnership of Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, and the artistry of Zinedine Zidane.

Now, I’m proud to pass on my knowledge and love for the game to young players. My son started playing for Spenni aged 6, and I took over as team coach at under 7. He is now14! With highly supportive and participative parents and volunteers, it is a pleasure to coach the team and a joy to play some small part in their development as individuals. Helping them develop skills, confidence, resilience, friendships and a lifelong passion for football is one of the most rewarding roles I’ve ever had.
